Bionik Brown
EDITOR'S NOTE: Bionik Brown passed away in 2008. NOJHF offers its sympathy to his friends and family.
Bionik Brown is the ultimate DIY artist. Not many others have been able to tour nationally and internationally and move thousands of albums without major label push. He's the artist, the CEO and the street team (all in one incredibly handsome, talented...and humble package). Temporarily residing in Denver, Colorado (as a result of Hurricane Katrina), he is keeping the spirit of his City’s music alive and well. His sound's been compared to many musical greats including Common, Devin the Dude, Big L and A Tribe Called Quest just to name a few. He's also had the opportunity to play shows with many of his influences including Talib Kweli, The Clipse, SOULIVE and The Roots. About his influences Brown says, I am influenced by God, life and good musicians regardless of genre. This is clear with one glance at his iPod which will reveal music from artists as diverse as Marvin Gaye, Salif Keita, The Meters, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong and James Taylor. Critically lauded for his ghostwriting efforts on a number of recordings in recent years; and for songs licensed to television and film, the future looks bright for the proud Uptown New Orleans product. His music's refreshingly devoid of the typical ignorant rap themes but the positive vibe is in no way a gimmick. Listeners quickly learn that the good vibes dramatically enhance the impact of the music. The former English major knows words and wields them well.
