Since March 2006, the members of Groovesect have blazed a trail through the streets and clubs of the New Orleans music scene, on a mission to secure their place amongst some of the finest musicians the town can offer.  Inspired by the syncopated beats and jazz rhythms of New Orleans and beyond, the guys pay homage to the greats while forging their own sound. Groovesect's sound reflects the deep musical relationships they have with one another after playing in various incarnations in the Crescent city since they were each eighteen. Each a skilled veteran in their craft, they push each other further and further each show while still maintaining that steady groove, of which they are beginning to be quite known for.  They blend jazz, soul, and rock music while still getting down on that nasty funk that they do best.

Since Alfred "Uganda" Roberts joined the band in the Spring of 2007, Groovesect has been voted the #1 Funk Band and #2 Contemporary Jazz Band in the 2007 Best of the Big Easy Awards (Where Y'at Magazine).  It is truly rare to see a new band garner so much respect so quickly in a scene with such a rich pool of local talent.  Uganda is one of New Orleans' greatest living legends; he was the only steady member of Professor Longhair's band and has toured and recorded with the Meters, Dr. John, Herbie Mann, Willie T, and many other greats.  Groovesect tours nationally, with recent appearances at the High Sierra Music Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, Waterfront Blues Fest, Telluride Jazz Festival, Voodoo Fest, and many others.  They toured in December with Fred Wesley (James Brown's band leader / Parliament/Funkadelic member) in support of their debut album release "On the Brim," in which Fred appears on three cuts.  The album was produced by 5 time Grammy winner John Snyder, and marks the arrival of the next great New Orleans funk band.
