The High Ground Drifters play bluegrass, both contemporary and traditional. They play original compositions and well-known covers. Their mission is to play high energy bluegrass music that is very danceable and expresses the joy they get in playing for people.

They feature skilled instrumental soloists with three and four part vocal harmony. Their set encompasses songs from The Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe on up to Old and In the Way and originals. They are a five piece unit with Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Fiddle, and Bass.

Their feature song for radio play will be “Rollin’ Into Bowling Green.” This original song features their tight arrangements, skilled soloing, and strong vocal. A live cut of this song can be heard at www.myspace.com/highgrounddriftersbluegrassband.  They also have videos to view on YouTube under “High Ground Drifters.”

This past spring, they have been featured at the Bayou Boogaloo, Thursday Night in City Park, the Abita Springs Opry, the WTUL Hootennany, and the Trinity Church Sunday music feature. Their songs have been played on both WWOZ and WTUL bluegrass shows. They have a regular second Saturday gig at Neutral Ground Coffeehouse. They have played at school fairs and educational presentations.

A documentary “Adrift In New Orleans” has been complete and we are quite happy with it. It will be in our merchandise offerings and should open up opportunities for the band.

Summer 2008 is focused on finishing our debut CD. They are in the process of booking some gigs in the Fall, such as Thursday at Ogden Museum, the Steam Train Bluegrass Festival, and Wednesday Music on Lafayette Square.
